PROPOSALS for building affordable homes in a north Wiltshire parish have been unveiled to residents.

More than 50 people attended a drop-in consultation session at Bremhill Village Hall to look at Sarsen Housing's scheme for building four houses in either Bremhill or East Tytherton.

At the consultation they were given the chance to comment on the proposals and say how they feel the properties will affect the local community.

The houses will be for people with a local connection and an identified housing need who cannot afford to buy or rent a private sector house in the parish.

Two of the houses are to be for rent and two for shared ownership where a person buys a portion of the home with a mortgage and rents the rest.

Colin Pearson, vice chairman of Bremhill Parish Council said: "The residents understand there is a need for the houses and although they are going to be in either Bremhill or East Tytherton, we tried to convey at the consultation that the houses are needed for the whole of the parish which is a very large area."

The consultation with Sarsen Housing, the housing association that will build the properties, follows a housing needs survey carried out by North Wiltshire District Council, which clearly identified the need for more affordable homes.

Carol Southall, from Community First, a charity supporting communities and people in Wiltshire, has been working closely with people in Bremhill parish to help the affordable housing scheme progress.

Another consultation meeting will be held at the village hall in East Tytherton on November 2 from 5-7pm.
