A Chippenham inventor has discovered a novel way to cook an egg.

Simon Rhymes, 23, has devised a way to cook a boiled egg using halogen bulbs with his Bulbed Egg Maker.

He came up with idea while studying project design at Bournemouth University and believes his device will be as common as toaster one day.

Mr Rhymes experimented with 600 eggs before producing the perfect specimen.

He said: "I started to experiment with a cooked egg under a table lamp - that took half an hour.

"Then I came across the halogen lights and adapted them to put in my Bulbed Egg Maker (BEM)."

Mr Rhymes claims he can produce the perfect boiled egg every time after the egg is lowered into the 30cm machine, which has four halogen bulbs inside.

It takes six minutes to produce a soft-boiled egg.

The young inventor has now patented his design and is looking for investors and manufacturers.
