A MAN has died after he was hit by a train in Trowbridge last night

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was struck by a passenger train on the track at Drynham Lane, close to the White Horse Business Park, at about 10pm.

Services from Trowbridge train station were delayed as the body was recovered from the track.

Police believe the dead man had been involved in a car crash only an hour before.

A spokesman said the victim was driving a silver Proton, which was in collision with a green Vauxhall Astra outside the Dursley Arms, in Dursley Road, about 9.05pm.

A woman passenger in the Astra tried to snatch the keys off the Proton driver, who she thought was drink-driving, but was bitten on the hand. The man drove off and the car was later found in Trowbridge by officers.

British Transport Police have launched an investigation into the man's death.
