A LOW-COST water purification device which could save thousands of lives in developing countries will be the subject of a presentation to west Wiltshire Rotary clubs next month.

Representatives from Danish firm Vestergard Frandsen will be at Frome Market next month to meet with Rotary Club members from across the region to talk about LifeStraw.

LifeStraw is a plastic pipe filter which can eradicate waterborne diseases such as salmonella.

Steve Stephens, who is on the international committee at Warminster Rotary Club, said clubs were interested to learn about the pioneering device.

The clubs already fund shelter boxes and emergency aid packs, which have gone out to disaster zones worldwide, including areas devastated by the 2004 tsunami.
