POOCHES raised pounds at Longleat House on Sunday by taking part in the 16th biennial Paw Trek.

The event, celebrating 75 years of guide dogs in the UK, attracted thousands of walkers, many of whom brought along their dogs.

The Marquis of Bath officially opened the event at 11am and in addition to the two-mile sponsored trek there were dog agility demonstrations, craft stalls, trade stands, a treasure map and entertainment for children.

Sue Davenport, Guide Dogs' South West fundraising manager, said: "Paw Trek is one of the biggest mass participation events in the south west.

"We are delighted that in this special anniversary year people travelled from across the region to celebrate the freedom, mobility and independence that guide dogs provide for blind and partially sighted people."

Doggy treats were on offer for the pets who completed the Paw Trek, and hundreds of different breeds of dog took part.
