YOUR correspondent B. Bronson is absolutely right about the road closures around Melksham.

Our county council highways dept, not content with closing Sandridge Hill for long enough to build a motorway to the moon, has seen fit to close the bridge at Lacock for several weeks, causing a long diversion via Chippenham to get to Calne.

Which of the following scenarios do your readers think is at the root of this?

a) the bridge at Lacock, after x-hundred years, has suddenly "sprung a leak" and needs urgent repairs?

b) incompetence?

c) arrogant disregard for the local public, whose council tax pounds pay their salaries?
