THE number worn by talented basketball player Matthew Bromley, who was killed in a road accident in May, will never be used by his team again, but will be kept as a permanent memorial to his talent.

Trowbridge Hawks will be retiring' the shirt to honour their friend before a match on Wednesday.

Mr Bromley, 23, was a rising star in the basketball world, playing for Bristol's national league team the Filton Flyers as well as the Trowbridge Hawks.

The former Clarendon College, Trowbridge pupil died after his car was in collision with a lorry near Chilcompton, Somerset.

The Hawks held a memorial game for him in August, raising £500 for the British Heart Foundation.

His death came as a huge shock to his team-mates. The team vest he always wore will be formally retired at Wednesday's match, when tributes will be paid to the talented player.
