TWO by-elections are taking place in Warminster for vacancies on both the district and county council.

Residents in the district council ward of Warminster West and the county council division of Warminster West will go to the polls on Thursday November 2, after Cllr John Syme resigned last month to care for his wife Sylke, who is ill.

The district council candidates are Roger Coveney (Liberal Democrat), Phillipa Ridout (Conservative) and Michael Turner (Independent).

The three candidates standing for the county council seat are Paul Batchelor (Liberal Democrat), Christopher March (Conservative) and Michael Turner (Independent).

Polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm on election day, and poll cards giving details about where to vote are now being sent out to households.

To be eligible to vote in these elections, residents must have been on the electoral register as of September 1 this year.

Anyone who thinks they will have difficulty getting to a polling station can apply for a postal vote and all postal applications must be received no later than 5pm on October 18.
