A TOUCH of the great French tradition of the vendage - the grape harvest - came to Wiltshire this week.

The Leigh Park Hotel, Bradford on Avon, is believed to be the only hotel in Britain boasting its own commercial vineyard.

Although this year's crop will not be served up until next year, last year's has produced enough for more than 900 bottles of medium dry white wine.

The grape vine picking was carried out by the hotel's gardener Gary Wicks, who was assisted by a team of professional pickers.

Once harvested, the grapes were transported to Mumfords Vineyard, near Bath, for processing.

Mr Wicks, pictured, said: "This is our 15th harvest and the vines appear to be heavily laden with grapes, probably more than I remember in previous years."
