SPACE adventures filled the minds of youngsters at a Trowbridge school this week.

Students at the John of Gaunt School had a firsthand look at the largest ever rocket to be launched from the UK.

Assistant headteacher Emma Lydon said: "The rocket visit will help raise the profile of science and technology subjects.

"The vision and determination of the rocket team is inspirational.

"This rocket scheme forms part of our specialist schools enrichment programme.

"Budding engineers in years 8 and 9 are designing rockets today using a CAD computing program in our community learning centre."

The NOVA/Starchaser 4 was launched from Morecambe Bay in November 2001.

It went on display at the school on Monday between 8am- 6.30pm.

The Starchaser team conducted a number of presentations throughout the day to pupils from years 7 through to year 13.

Starchaser Industries founder Steven Bennett said: "Our aim is to open up the space tourism industry so that people will get the chance to fly in a rocket."
