THE Melksham and District Beekeepers Association is hosting the Wiltshire Beekeepers Association Annual Honey Show and Autumn Beekeepers Day tomorrow, with a chance to meet World Honey Queen Ceri Cryer.

The show is being held at the Bowerhill Village Hall, on Halifax Road, Bowerhill, on the outskirts of Melksham - find it next to the primary school. It runs from 10.30am-3.45pm, and includes seven beekeeping-related displays.

Beekeeping before the Great War and the development of the British Black Bee are two of the topics studied, which there are displays on encaustic art, beeswax floristry and products of the hive.

A free World Honey tasting event is hosted by Ceri Cryer and there are five talks and presentations:

  • Dr Stephen Henning on Apis mellifera mellifera
  • Alan Stonell on Aspects of Queen Rearing
  • Liz Norris giving an encaustic art demonstration
  • Ceri Cryer on My first year as the World Honey Queen
  • Chris Slade on The Birds and Bees Thornes agent Chris Rawlings, from Berryfield Bees, will be selling a range of beekeeping equipment, and there will be a stall selling a private collection of over 700 honey pots Admission to this must-bee-there event for anyone interested in bees and honey is free, and there will be homemade refreshments and ploughmans lunches available.
