WEST Wiltshire’s new kerbside plastic bottle and cardboard recycling service started on Monday.
It means that every fortnight, residents will be able to use their new blue-lidded bins to recycle the materials from their doorstep.
The new bins are being delivered to 58,000 homes across the area but it is unlikely that everyone will receive their bin in time for the first collection.
Every householder in the west of the county has received a collection date calendar advising them of the day they need to leave out their general waste, garden waste, plastic bottles and cardboard for collection.
The black box recycling service is unaffected by the changes.
When the roll-out of the scheme is completed, it will mean Wiltshire Council’s waste collection services will finally be unified across the county after taking on different collections run by each of the former district councils.
Residents in the east of the county will be the last ones to get the new bins when their service is rolled out from November 28.
It is hoped that recycling rates will hit 50 per cent in the county by 2020 – the rate is currently 41 per cent.
Anyone who has not received a blue-lidded bin by the day before their scheduled collection day should call 0300 456 0102.
