A work programme lasting 15 weeks, to replace an ageing water main in Farleigh Wick, has begun.
The 40-year-old main has deteriorated over the years and has occasionally burst.
Wessex Water will now insert a new main within the current main, to bring it up to modern standards.
Simon Hole, a Wessex Water project manager, said: “This method will significantly reduce the duration required for the works and any possible disruption.”
Two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place during the work.
