Over recent weeks, one thing has become abundantly clear. Namely, the powers that be at Wiltshire College, Trowbridge, are failing to realise and thereby appreciate just what a fantastically theatrically versatile asset they have on their very own doorstep.

Each and every time I attend The Arc Theatre, whatever the nature and genre of the performance, I come away feeling culturally enriched. This enrichment can stem, either from our own culture, or from that of another country, whichever is on offer ensures an enlightening and educational experience.

But if those self-same powers that be have their own way. The Arc’s status as a professional theatre will be gone and with it a gateway to culture.

It is not only completely unthinkable but utterly criminally inconceivable for the county town of Wiltshire to be devoid of any such venue, a favourite with small professional touring theatre companies.

The implications and ramifications of such a decision are far-reaching and run far deeper with an outcome that would be plausibly devastating.

My reason for such a sweeping statement?

The pull and attraction of the National Diploma in Performing Arts at Wiltshire College, Trowbridge, is the draw of a professional theatre. If this is withdrawn, then it could be argued that the very people who claim to have the best interests of the students at heart are in actuality selling out these dedicated drama students whilst in the same breath failing to serve the local people to the fullest potential, which at present remains untarnished.

In order that The Arc Theatre maintain its current highly valued status I once again urge and implore the powers that be to rethink the ways and re-examine the areas in which to make monetary savings.
