Fundraising was the big winner following a Corsham charity football match that raised £900 for Kidney Research UK on Sunday.
The match, between the Corsham Centre Legends and Neston 81 Legends was held at The Rec in Corsham and finished 4-4 with the centre legends snatching victory after winning the penalty shoot-out 4-1.
Former Corsham Town captain Craig Gingell, 28, who played for Corsham Centre Legends, was inspired to organise the event to raise funds for Kidney Research UK, who help his cousin Kim Coulson, 45, who suffers from chronic kidney disease.
Mr Gingell, of Bences Lane, said: “The day went really well, I’m so glad we raised so much money as that was what the day was all about, we surpassed my expectations for the day and I’m very proud.
“It was also a great game to play in as by the time the match kicked off everybody was raring to go.”
After the match the players and spectators went to Corsham Community Centre in Beechfield Road, where there were many fundraising events taking place.
Activities included a darts competition, a pool competition and a raffle, with prizes including a signed MK Dons football and a signed autobiography by former Tottenham player John Gorman.
Mr Gingell, who is now the player-manager of Box Rovers, said: “I’m very pleased by how the raffle went, as that was one of the big fundraisers. I’d like to thank everyone who donated prizes, especially the local businesses, as we had some great prizes.”
