WESTBURY people got a chance to look around new facilities, including sophisticated audio-visual equipment, at the revamped Laverton Centre.
The historic hall, in Bratton Road, had £200,000 spent on it after Westbury Town Council, which is based there, revealed it needed extensive repairs.
The centre was officially opened last Friday evening, at a launch event offering local charities and clubs guided tours.
Music was provided by Matravers School students.
The centre has new electrics and heating, improved access for disabled visitors and has been spruced up with paint and repairs to plastering and woodwork.
Westbury mayor David Windess said: “It went very well, it was very well attended and feedback we got from a lot of people is that they are pleased with the renovations. We certainly seem to be getting more use out of it – on Saturday we had a wedding reception there.”
Also present was author Anthony Laverton, speaking about his new book on the life of Abraham Laverton, the founder of the Laverton Institute.
For more information about using the centre, call the town council on 01373 822232.
