Corsham Town Council has withdrawn its support for a football pitch being developed in Katherine Park after residents raised concerns about the matter.
At last week’s town council meeting the Katherine Park Residents’ Association appealed to councillors to withdraw its support for a football pitch, which would be built using a £150,000 contribution from the site’s developer Persimmon.
Corsham Town Council said that there were already enough football facilities in the town but it would still like to see a sports development on the site.
Councillors added that the ground could be suitable for cricket and for a running track, but wanted the community to have their say.
The town council has now approached Wiltshire Council to check Persimmon would provide a financial contribution to the development if the money was used for a sport other than football.
If this is agreed, a consultation with the Corsham residents will then take place at a later date.
