Westbury's Greengates Care Home is back up to scratch, according to a new report which praises improvements to its appearance, cleanliness, residents’ care plans and record keeping.
The Care Quality Commission carried out an inspection last month after the home, in Redlands Lane, was criticised for being dirty and under-staffed in March.
Inspectors found that problems including a lack of homeliness, poor record keeping and provision of support for dementia sufferers and inadequate cleanliness had all been addressed.
Manager Elaine Andrews has been working on the improvements since she took over in November, when owners Siam and Diana Yeoh retired.
Mrs Andrews said: “We are over the moon with this report. It has been a lot of hard work and I am so proud of the staff for all their efforts to turn the place around.
“They have shown real commitment. The last report was a real shock to them, although I wasn’t so surprised myself as a new manager.
“The home needed serious refurbishment and that is what we have done.
“We have redecorated the communal areas and the vacant rooms and we are currently working on the occupied rooms.
“We also have a new activities co-ordinator, to arrange entertainment and outings for the residents.
“We have upped staffing levels too, and our paperwork is much more up-to-date and there are plans for further improvements through the next year.”
The new report states the home “smelt fresh and was odour-free”, with bathrooms and toilets “clean and free of dust”.
It says: “We observed that many improvements had been made to the home environment since our last review.
“Among these were the provision of a large, fully adapted bathroom for people with disabilities.
“The courtyard garden area had been much improved, particularly the paving stones had all been re-laid to prevent risk of tripping for people.
“All of the corridor and communal areas had been redecorated as had many of the rooms.”
Only one criticism remains in the report, with inspectors still concerned in one case about safe medicine storage and inconsistent dosage record-keeping by a temporary care worker.
Overall, however, they found “that people were given their medications in a safe and sensitive manner”.
