JOINT Premier Division pacesetters’ Westbury Rangers A recovered from the disappointment of having two points deducted for playing an ineligible player in their opening game against Winsley by taking maximum points from Semington Rovers for a second time this season courtesy of a 3-1 win.
Westbury will also be buoyed by the news that FC Bradford, who share pole position, will also lose two points following the withdrawal of Bradford News from the division.
But until the table shows any alterations Shaun Gardiner’s side remain in second place on goal difference.
Semington took the lead against Westbury when Nick Mead picked out Stuart Barber with an inch perfect cross and the striker was left with a simple finish to hand Semington a 1-0 half-time lead.
Westbury restored parity early in the second half through Matty Mead and they took the lead when Wayne Wheeler scored his first of the season.
The points were secured thanks to a second from Mead that took his tally for the season to 10.
Bug & Spider 0 Biddestone Social 1
A COMBINATION of a great goalkeeping display from Lewis Porter, the woodwork and poor finishing denied Bug & Spider what would have been a famous win over champions Biddestone Social, whose patched-up side had to call on all their experience to claim a nailbiting 1-0 win away to Marcus Lovesey’s top-flight newcomers.
Both Mark Dolman and Steve Allison were denied by the woodwork in the first half as Bug & Spider took the game to Biddestone.
And only a world-class save from Porter, who was at full stretch to tip a Steve Allison thunderbolt to safety on 50 minutes, kept the champions goal intact.
Biddestone made the all-important breakthrough in the 65th minute when a great run from player-manager Dan Lardner saw him play in Gary Banks who finished well from 12 yards and give the visitors to Beversbrook the lead. Biddestone were reduced to 10 men on 80 minutes when Rob Pocock was taken out in the area, with the game held up for five minutes while Pocock received treatment for an ankle injury.
Biddestone prepared to take the penalty but once the game resumed it was only a free kick on the edge of the area and not a spot kick, much to their annoyance.
Craig Lovesey and Neurin Jones had chances for Bug & Spider late on, but Biddestone were able to see out the game and claim a deserved two points.
