A brave fundraiser is helping organise a charity event to support Breakthrough Breast Cancer at Bradford on Avon’s United Reform Church on October 29.
Margaret Sykes, 65, of Winsley, was diagnosed with the disease five years ago, but overcame it due to advances in breast cancer treatment.
Now she is supporting the charity during national Breast Cancer Awareness Month’s Go Pink campaign.
Mrs Sykes said: “When I was being treated, I had some of the relatively new drugs which were being offered at the time and that development can’t be reached without people supporting charities such as Break-through Breast Cancer.
“I would like to think if these charities continue to get this support, then our daughters’ generation will be free of breast cancer.”
Mrs Sykes is organising a fundraising event, between 3pm and 5pm, with friend Maria Gonzalez, a Latin American dancer who will teach visitors a variety of dance moves.
There will also be a raffle, with many prizes donated by Bradford on Avon firms.
Mrs Sykes said: “We’ve received a huge amount of goodwill from the people of Bradford on Avon and the surrounding community as we’ve organised this event.
“We have 12 prizes for the raffle and I’d like to say thank to the businesses that have donated them.”
There will also be tea and light refreshments served at the fundraising afternoon, which costs £5 to attend.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK and nearly 1,000 women die of the disease each month.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer helps fight the disease by developing new treatments, raising awareness and campaigning for better services for patients.
Mrs Sykes said: “Support-ing Breakthrough Breast Cancer is so important because everyone knows someone who has been affected by the disease.
“We’re really looking forward to Going Pink this October and raising money for Breakthrough.”
Money raised from the Go Pink campaign will be spent on research, campaigning and education work.
