WEST Wilts’ long trip to Redruth for their Davis Wood League Premier Division Two opener proved fruitful as they defeated Truro 2-1.
The visitors made a magnificent start as ex-Loughborough student Callum Wolff showed strength to coast up to the top of the D before unleashing a reverse stick shot into the top corner.
Truro levelled before half time, but West Wilts pressed in the second period, creating numerous short corners before eventually winning a penalty flick.
Jimmy Culnane converted with ease and should have had a second goal during open play minutes later.
There was also success for West Wilts 2nd in their Avon Division clash at home to Old Bristolians A, who were thrashed 5-1.
Fine movement on and off the ball enabled a driving run by Dave King and a sweep shot under the goalkeeper by Nick Mooney to put the home team a goal up.
The second goal came from Dave Yalland putting pressure on a defender and a quick flick shot over the goalkeeper hitting the crossbar allowing a simple rebound tap in for Mooney.
As half time approached, Matt Kenyon fired home the third.
Ed Dumpleton started the second half scoring after a lay-off by Mooney and, despite a reply from their visitors, West Wilts responded as Kenyon fired in his second.
West Wilts 3rd were also comfortable 8-0 winners at Marlborough B in Wiltshire & NE Somerset Division One.
Within 20 minutes, the visitors were three up as Stu Brailey struck twice and Owen Hackett also netted.
Pete Stacey added a fourth and another four goals followed in the second half, Sam Creedy, Brailey – for his hat-trick – Stacey and Hackett netting again.
