Paul MacDonald claims, in his letter (WT, August 5), that the Preservation Trust has publicly admitted misleading the public about the planning status of the Unity design for a footbridge in Bradford on Avon. He is doubly wrong. The leaflet produced by the trust in relation to the town council’s recent ballot says clearly: “Unity could shortly be ready for planning application, with good prospects of receiving permission”. This was written following consultations with Wiltshire Council officials.
Now the people of Bradford have voted against the cable stay design, we are considering how best to check whether there is a public preference for the Unity design. If the result is positive, a planning application could follow.
David Moss, Chairman, Bradford on Avon Preservation Trust.
