Cllr John Brady, cabinet member for finance, said he was pleased with making good progress on savings, in last week’s Wiltshire Times.
Some readers might not be aware that councillors receive £200 per week basic allowance.
Many receive more, some up to one third of a member of Parliament’s salary, remuneration for extra responsibility, but get paid if they do not attend meetings. If attendance money was stopped, councillors would feel and enjoy the same pain as the staff, after all many councillors are former employees in local government.
