A man was knocked off his bike on New Road, Mount Pleasant, Bradford on Avon by a silver estate car at 10.50am on July 27.
It was believed last week that the cyclist was a nine-year-old boy, but Bradford on Avon Police have now confirmed now that it was a 19-year-old man who was injured in the incident. The car involved hooted at the teenager as he went to overtake it, and then the back of the car knocked the bike’s front wheel, flipping the cyclist over the handlebars into the road.
The car failed to stop at the scene. Tthe teenager suffered a broken arm and is expected to require surgery.
Sergeant Chris Hams said: “It appears clear that the driver of the vehicle firstly distracted the cyclist and secondly it would be very unlikely that the driver wouldn’t have known they had knocked the teenager off his bike. This is a very serious incident and we could have potentially been dealing with a fatality.”
