A Warminster man was assaulted and received serious facial injuries as he left the Fox and Hounds pub in Deverill Road in the early hours of Saturday.
A 43-year-old Warminster man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until September 15, pending further enquiries.
Police say the 49-year-old victim is now in a stable condition at the neurological centre at Southampton.
DC Nick Ryan said: “I would like to speak to anyone who was in the pub, as I am aware that there were people there who had been to a social function at Codford, and they may have witnessed the assault or have information to help my investigation.”
