CHAMPION belly dancer Tracey Jones is mounting her first big show in Melksham since she lost part of a leg in a motorcycle accident in 2007.

Ms Jones, 42, of The Strand, near Semington, is hoping her colourful show on Friday will raise thousands of pounds for Egyptian women suffering from breast cancer.

Ms Jones said: “Staging the show is the biggest thing I’ve done since the accident.

“As well as giving a showcase to my pupils, Yasmina of Cairo is coming to perform. Yasmina is English and is a truly international star.

“She has been living in Cairo for a number of years and usually comes over to England in the summer to dance and give classes.”

The show will raise money for Just Because, a charity set up by Arabic dancers to raise awareness and money for Egyptian women who contract breast cancer and are unable to afford treatment.

Ms Jones said: “There is no NHS in Egypt so when a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer it is like a death sentence.”

Ms Jones lost part of her left leg in the accident in Bromham when she was riding home on her Yamaha motorcycle after performing at the Southgate Inn in Devizes.

She was in collision with a car that pulled out of a turning, and was airlifted to hospital where her leg was amputated.

Despite the disability, Ms Jones successfully returned to dance teaching. She said: “It is difficult, especially with balance when you are doing a turn, but if you’re showing someone else how it’s done, it’s important to get it right.”
