CHIPPENHAM are into the semi finals of the England Hockey Men’s Vase after hitting their Middlesex visitors for six.

The away side started the stronger and looked a threat early on.

But Chippenham’s Mark Knight opened the scoring with a high drag flick into the top corner.

Mike Dodd added a second after a quick Chippenham counter-attack.

Merchants pulled a goal back from the restart, but Knight restored Chippenham their two-goal cushion with a tap in at the far post from Alex Thomas’s reverse stick cross.

Harry Elias added the fourth goal, while Dodd quickly added a fifth and James Knight rounded off a fine result to book Chippenham a semi final against Burnt Ash (Bexley) on March 27.

Chippenham’s match towards the Davis Wood League North Division Two title also continued unabated as they smashed 12 unanswered goals past visitors Swansea Bay A on Saturday.

The Wiltshire side smashed through the 100 goal barrier in just 19 league matches to retain their four-point gap over second-placed Penarth.

Elias scored the opening goal, then Dodd added a second.

Nigel Stonham got onto the scoresheet with the third which was soon followed by Elias’s second after a rebound from the Swansea goalkeeper.

Dodd scored again from open play and Elias completed his hat-trick before half time.

The second half proved just as productive, Elias carrying on where he left off with his fourth.

Dodd also completed his hat-trick and Stonham scored his second with a hard shot from the top of the circle before Dodd scored again from a short corner. A new name on the scoresheet was Scott Trainor, who grabbed his first of the game from close range before Elias finished the scoring with his fifth.
