The people behind the hit BBC series Cranford visited Lacock last week to talk about the making of the show.
Co-creators Sue Birtwistle and Susie Conklin treated guests at St Cyriac’s Church to a talk which included video clips from the series. Afterwards they signed copies of their new book The Cranford Companion.
Ms Birtwistle said: “When we approached the BBC about it, it didn’t sound like a big sell because we had a huge cast and 24 of them had to be some of Britain’s leading actresses.”
The pair revealed it took seven years from start to the screen and because of BBC funding cuts the project almost didn’t go ahead.
