MORE leisure facilities could be provided across west Wiltshire if an action plan is approved.
A leisure and recreational needs survey carried out by consultants for West Wiltshire District Council recommends the refurbishment or replacement of the eight council-owned leisure centres.
It also suggests artificial turf pitches should be built on land belonging to secondary schools to solve the lack of sports pitches in the district. The report, which cost £30,000, does not suggest specific facilities but sites already earmarked for new or improved leisure provision include land near Woodmarsh, North Bradley; land near Woolmore Farm, Melksham; the Hilperton Gap, Trowbridge and the Lafarge Sports Ground and Vivash Park in Westbury.
The plan sets out a large number of preferred options for developing leisure facilities and will go to the district council's cabinet for approval on Wednesday. The next stage will be assessing the options and deciding which ones are possible, before further consultation is carried out.
