PEOPLE who work tirelessly for the Trowbridge community were recognised for their efforts on Tuesday.

At the annual town gathering, held at the Civic Hall, 50 individuals and groups were given certificates for their contribution to the town. Mayor Arthur Ransom said: "This is an opportunity to thank those who do something for our town and make it a better place to live."

Among those singled out for recognition was Wiltshire Times photographer Trevor Porter, for his help in providing photographs and displays to the town council. Police community support officers Sam Enness, Julie Higdon and Vicky White were recognised for the work they have done to improve communication between the police and the public.

Wayne Palmer, 34, of Boundary Walk, was pleased to receive a certificate for the work he has done raising money for charity by organising fashion shows, the last raising £1,400 for cancer charities. He said: "I have been doing it since 1994 and it is nice to be recognised for it. "I enjoy doing it and will carry on trying to make each one a little different."

Staff at Knees and the Crowing Cock restaurant were nominated for awards because of their devotion to good customer service. Town crier Trevor Heeks received a certificate, as did his wife of 35 years, Lilian, for her devotion to supporting him in the role he has played in the town for the past 20 years.

Other recipients included volunteers and charity workers.
