DEVOTED Christian Vera Forster died at the Royal United Hospital in Bath on April 12 at the age of 84.
Mrs Forster was born and raised in Beckington, Somerset, along with her two brothers, one older and one younger. She met her future husband, George, when he was stationed in the village during the Second World War and the couple married in 1941.
They lived in London for a short time where their eldest daughter, Diane, was born in 1944. They then moved back to Beckington where their second child, Shirley, was born in 1948. Shirley was about five years old when the family settled in Trowbridge.
Mr Forster worked for Ushers Brewery and as an ambulance driver while his wife worked for local firms including Bowyers and Modelux Laundry. She then worked as a cook at Larkrise School and a matron at Adcroft Boys School before finishing her working days as a home help co-ordinator for social services.
Mrs Forster was a committed Christian all her life and was a member of the Baptist Church and the Salvation Army. As well as her daughters she leaves five grandchildren, Adrian, Martyn, Christopher, Paul and Claire and six great-grandchildren. Her husband died 17 years ago.
The funeral service will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel in Trowbridge at midday today. Family flowers only. Donations can be made to the Wiltshire Diabetic Society care of DJ Bewley, Duke Street, Trowbridge.
