ANY tampering with the vote is staggering. The sheer scale of it is absolute black comedy laughable if it were not so deadly serious.
This sort of thing can put the paper into a difficult position, and for the editor not to point the finger at anyone yet is sensibly restrained. Pending additional evidence, it does appear however that only one side could stand to benefit from a mentally infantile, computer literate, determined attempt to skew the result, which would further support my view that no-one can accept at face value any statement by our increasingly profligate town council.
What I have increasingly come to believe is that we should explore not merely resignations, but restitution, a method to return at least some of the bloated tax burden back to the taxpayers, together with getting the town hall onto an affordable financial footing.
P Fowler, Trowbridge
I HAVE been following the saga of Trowbridge Town Hall in the Letters pages of the Wiltshire Times over the past few weeks. Not being a member of Trowbridge Town Council, but as a councillor, I have of course not been blind to the views of Trowbridge residents who have been both for and against the scheme.
However the Wiltshire Times must be congratulated in uncovering the attempt to rig last week's poll on whether councillors should resign over the issue. Those who allegedly attempted to rig this poll have done their cause no good whats ever. I would hope over the coming weeks these people will be identified.
We must remember that it was not only the Liberal Democrats that voted for the record council tax rise, it did have some Conservative support. And in turn some Liberal Democrats voted against.
Next year the town touncil will be up for election once again and the residents of Trowbridge will have the chance to make their views known. And maybe then and rightly then those for and against will be judged.
Cllr Terry Chivers, Melksham
