SUPERMARKET chain Tesco has made another attempt to expand its Trowbridge store.
The supermarket wants to add a mezzanine level at the County Way store in order to increase the amount of non-food items it can sell. The store does not need planning permission to build the extra level but does need the approval of West Wiltshire District Council to increase the percentage of non-food items it sells.
An application put before the council in February was deferred for more information on the impact on the trade of shops in the town centre and on parking issues at the store. Tesco was last night due to plead its case before the council's planning committee once again.
Since the last planning decision the company has prepared documents addressing the retail impact on the town and concerns over parking. Council officers recommended the application be approved. It was due to be put before the planning committee last night.
