TROWBRIDGE Harriers' problems at the foot of the Premier Division continued last night as they were hammered 8-1 by Winsley in their bottom of the table clash.
The beating leaves them separated from bottom of the table Hullavington by goal difference only and with champions-elect Corsham Centre still to play twice their 27 goal advantage could well get wiped out.
Winsley were in a rampant mood in the first half as they hit five goals without reply.
Dean Ranger scored a hat-trick and other goals came from Paul Ranger, Mike Little, Nick Ridout and Gary Higdon (2). John Baker replied for Harriers.
With Sherston Town just above the danger zone at the foot of the table they need another victory to be certain of their place in the top flight for next season, but they were unable to claim it at home to Maud Heath Sports who condemned them to their 13th defeat of the season with a 4-1 scoreline.
Matthew Waite scored twice for the Sports, with Graham Dean and an own goal from Ben Newman making up the tally. Ben Wright replied for Sherston.
DIVISION ONE
Chippenham Police face an anxious wait to see if they will be playing First Division football next season. The boys in blue lost their final game of the campaign, 6-0 away at North Star A. The Police must now hope that basement side The Horse and Groom fail to collect a win in any of their three remaining games against champions Spencer Sports, who they meet this Sunday, North Bradley and North Star A.
Should they win any of those games it could come down to goal difference as to who faces the drop from the Division. Against North Star the Police suffered a fifth successive loss as Mark Dolman and then a free from Ronnie Kallmeier, which took a wicked deflection, put the Star 2-0 up at the break. Mark Sharratt hit a second half double and Pete Thornton and Tommy Ludford added singles to make up Star's half dozen.
DIVSION TWO
It's looking as though Kings Arms (Trowbridge) and Parsons Nose are going to be the sides that claim the two automatic promotion places. Both claimed Thursday night victories that has seen them open up an eight point and three point gap respectively on the chasing pack, which are led by Southwick Sports and Kingfisher FC.
Kings Arms (Trowbridge) ended any hopes Southwick may have had of sealing a top two finish as they were at their best to run out 7-3 victors. Having built up a 3-0 advantage at the interval, thanks to a double from Scott Askew and one from Sam Simpson, the game exploded into life in the second period with another seven goals.
Askew scored two more to take his tally for the game to four. Nathan Flower and Lee Murden completed The Arms' total. Darren Jones, Gary Rice and Stuart Powell replied for Southwick.
Second placed Parsons Nose were without first choice goalkeeper Gareth Evens, who was at the hospital celebrating the birth of his baby son, but deputy goalkeeper Dan Neale kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 success over Sutton Benger.
Sutton Benger pushed Parsons Nose all the way but they were unable to prevent them recording a 10th successive win, with goals from Wayne Bailey, who fired home a free-kick after 17 minutes, and Steve Pegler, who wrapped things up in the 76th minute.
The Crown Devizes ended their poor run of form which had seen them lose eight games on the trot, by beating a Virgin Mobile team who had lost just one of their previous five games. The game almost never got underway as the planned referee failed to show and only a last minute intervention from The Crown's Roy Whiting, who took over the whistle, led to the game going ahead.
The Crown welcomed back star striker Simon Drewitt, who bagged a double in his side's 4-1 victory. Strike partner Darren Thorpe and Lee Saunders added one apiece and Nick Jenkins hit Virgin's consolation.
White Horse FC claimed what could be a vital point in their bid to avoid relegation when they came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw with Steeple Ashton (Sunday). Mark Pugh put the Horse 1-0 up only for Lee Hayward to tie the scores.
Marc Sheppard netted before the break to give Ashton a 2-1 lead to take into the second half, when Sheppard wasted numerous opportunities to put his team well on top. White Horse never gave up and the fashioned a deserved equaliser from Craig Pocklington which come May could well be the goal that keeps his team in the division for another season.
DIVISION THREE
Somerford FC's Chris Yeo could well turn out to be their hero as he may have single handed kept them in the division for another season. Yeo scored all three goals against Westbury Rangers B to earn the villagers a 3-3 draw and an all-important point that moves them two points clear of both Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club and North Star B.
Somerford quickly fell behind to a Sam Gooding goal but Yeo equalised from the penalty spot. Yeo then hit a stunning volley to put the visitors 2-1 ahead and an own goal from Somerford's Jason Lovell brought the scores level before another good finish from Yeo saw Somerford regain the lead at 3-2.
Just as if it was looking as if Somerford would seal only their fifth win of the season, Brad Rowlands tucked the ball home after a goalmouth scramble to earn Rangers a point.
With Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club to play twice in May, one win from those couple of games could see Somerford safe if the Town fail to take anything from their two games before they meet Somerford in the relegation showdown.
