CORSHAM Centre are within touching distance of lifting the Premier Division title after they defeated outgoing champions Westbury Rangers A 2-1 at Meadow Lane.
The champions-elect bossed the first half and took a 2-0 advantage into the second period after goals from Scott Lye and Russell Gibbings had put them in charge. Rangers were not going to give up their crown without a fight but a deflected effort by Paul Beavers was all they had to show for their efforts.
The defeat ended Rangers' chance of becoming the first team since Cooper-Avon Rangers to claim back to back titles.
DIVISION ONE
Spencer Sports have been crowned First Division champions following their 4-2 victory over Chippenham Police, who played the whole game with 10 players. Goals from Ralph Plummer, Dan King and Paul Eames saw Spencer Sports build up a 3-0 lead before the Police hit back through Jason Roberts.
Luke Ballinger made it 4-1 but the Police had the final say with Mark Simpson scoring their second goal. Spencer Sports, who won both the WG Parr Trophy and the Second Division title last term, will head to the top flight knowing that they have the players capable of seeing them to a top six finish.
Another plus for Spencer Sports was that Tim Knight, who has been out of action for 18 months, played the final 10 minutes and showed no ill effects from his cameo appearance.
The race for the runners-up spot is starting to gather pace, with Potterne, Holt and Semington Rovers vying for the second automatic promotion spot.
DIVISION TWO
Kings Arms (Trowbridge) turned the screw on their rivals at the top of the table after they overcame a determined Kingfisher side to open up a five point gap on second placed Parsons Nose. The Arms left it late to claim a 3-2 success, which was in the main down to a supurb display from Kingfisher goalkeeper Mark Bolton.
DIVISION THREE
It's starting to look as if Fascia Graphics are suffering from the end of season jitters, as they look to finish top of Division Three. Fascia were odds-on to take the title a few weeks a go but they have started to falter as the season concludes.
After three games without a win Fascia were expected to end their drought with victory over Pack Horse Rangers, bus as in recent weeks Fascia dropped a vital point when they were held to a 1-1 draw.
Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club relegation fears continue after their latest defeat at home to WG Parr Trophy finalists Wheatsheaf. Wheatsheaf, who lost out to North Star A in last Sunday's final, bounced back in style to claim a 4-0 success.
DIVISION FOUR
Leaders The Plough booked one of the two automatic promotion places from the division without kicking a ball when fellow title chasers The Southgate Inn, playing in their first game for a month, defeated third placed Cooper-Avon 3-1. The result means that the best Cooper-Avon can do is deny Southgate second spot.
