MR Robin White, who grew up in Trowbridge, died on April 3, the day before his 68th birthday, after a short illness.
He was born in 1938 and attended Lord Weymouth's School in Warminster, where he was captain of the cricket team and a leading chorister and actor. He was a member of the Wiltshire Lawn Tennis team and the Westbourne Tennis Club in Trowbridge.
He left school aged 17 after winning a choral scholarship to St John's College, Cambridge, where he studied English before changing to law. He graduated when he was 20 and then served for three years as a commissioned officer in the Royal Air Force, spending much of his time in Germany.
He then worked for Esso in Hertfordshire and it was there he met his wife Jackie. The couple had two children Simon and Heidi.
Mr White joined the Royal Navy and served in Dartmouth, Manadon, and at HMS Royal Arthur, Corsham.
He took early retirement from the navy in 1982 and then worked as a golf club secretary in a variety of clubs, including Henbury in Bristol.
At 64 he retired and he and his wife moved to in Milton under Wychwood, Oxfordshire. His brother Andrew said Mr White was well known in Trowbridge and had an avid interest in sport, especially golf. He was also a great lover of classical music.
He leaves his widow, children Simon and Heidi, four grandchildren, brother Andrew and sisters Jane and Mary. His funeral was held yesterday in Milton under Wychwood.
