Following the picture published in the Wiltshire Times on April 7 of a group of people outside Melksham Town Hall in 1948. Laurance Andrews of Salisbury has written to say he was then aged nine and living in Melksham.

He immediately recognised two girls in the photograph one in Japanese or Chinese costume and the other dressed as a nurse although he cannot recall their names.

These same two girls are in the picture at the wedding of Gordon Weston and Monica Gerrish in 1947, pictured left. Gordon was a local postman.

"The common denominator?" asks Mr Andrews. "Simply that Gordon and my parents were friends; they all came to Melksham from Portland in Dorset."
