AS someone who remembers the Town Hall in its heyday I am saddened at the venom currently being directed at the building itself and in particular the small Bulldoze It Now faction which has found a voice.

Many of us are concerned for our history and heritage and have a great affection for our most familiar listed building. If the Town Hall cannot be restored to its former glory, is it too much to hope that those on all sides of the argument will at least feel a small twinge of regret?

Or are we to become the town which knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing?
