Cumberwell Park Golf Club members had the best possible incentive for making a New Year resolution to give up smoking for the club imposed a ban from the start of the year.
The Bradford on Avon club became one of the first clubs to ban smoking in advance of the change in the law that comes into being next year.
Michael Craig, director of house, said: "It was a difficult decision to make because as a business we respect an individual's freedom of choice.
"But we were also conscious of our responsibility to provide a healthy environment for our staff, members and guests."
Isle of Wedmore is another club with a no smoking policy and they were joined on April 1 by Farrington. General manager Debbie Cole, pictured, said: "This was decided at a club committee meeting a couple of weeks before parliament imposed the ban from next year.
"Even the smokers on the committee were all for it. We have written to all the people who have booked golf days and functions at Farrington informing them of the decision.
"Special receptacles for cigarettes will be installed at designated smoking areas outside the buildings."
