WORK began on Monday to create a new skatepark for young people in Corsham.
For three years the Corsham skate project group has been collaborating with local people towards providing the facility now being built at the Springfield Recreation Ground.
North Wiltshire District Council has contributed £48,523 towards the project.
Cllr Carol O'Gorman, leader of the council said: "It is great to see the work now underway, local people have made this happen.
"They have played an important part in every aspect from planning the design right through to fund raising.
It is thanks to all their hard work and determination that the young people of Corsham will have a superb skate facility."
The facility is estimated to cost around £97,000 and in addition to the money given by North Wiltshire District Council, the council's Corsham area committee awarded £25,000 in September and an additional £23,523 has been granted from the executive capital partnership funding scheme.
To secure funding, the skate group worked closely with the district council, Corsham Town Council and Wiltshire County Council.
