THIRD Division Wheatsheaf lock horns with First Division outfit North Star A in the match of the day in this Sunday's Auto Business Solutions Ltd Chippenham Sunday League programme.
The two contest the Westernsport Trophies-sponsored WG Parr Trophy final in what promises to be a thriller. It is the first time since the competition began in 1974 that two Calne-based sides have met in a final.
Wheatsheaf go into the game as underdogs against a North Star side who, having lost to at the semi-final stage in the previous two campaigns, made it to the final at the third attempt.
The Star will not want join the likes of fellow First Division sides Potterne and Holt and Division Two teams Steeple Ashton and The Crown Devizes who have all been eliminated by a free-scoring Wheatsheaf team who have netted 14 times on the way to the final.
North Star have not been shy in front of goal themselves and in their four cup games have scored 20 times as they beat Sir Audley's Arms (4-1), North Bradley (7-4), Parsons Nose (5-3) and Fascia Graphics (4-3). But with the Star defence also leaking goals a high scoring game is on the cards.
There promises to be a healthy crowd for the final at Corsham Town's Southbank ground as Wheatsheaf will be cheered on by their own band of cheerleaders and their vocal support may be just what is needed to inspire the Third Division team to a surprise victory.
- The game kicks-off at 2pm.
PREMIER DIVISION
In the league programme Premier Division leaders Corsham Centre return to action after a two week break to take on Corsham Cricket Club. On paper it looks like a cert win for the Centre but, with local pride at stake, the cricketers could prove tougher to crack than many expect.
Biddestone Social have a tricky game at home to Box Rovers, who will want to record a third successive win and gain revenge for their opening day 6-5 defeat against Biddestone.
Westbury Rangers A should beat Bradford News to stay in touch with the top two sides.
At the foot of the table Hullavington play Sherston Town, who won the reverse clash 3-1 and should warp up a welcome double.
Dog and Fox Ashley's hopes of a return to winning ways after two successive defeats could be dashed by Maud Heath Sports, who will be bidding for their third successive win.
DIVISION ONE
The top game in Division One is between Potterne and Semington Rovers and, with both teams chasing the inactive Spencer Sports at the head of the table, neither team can afford to lose. For the winners a top two finish is a good possibility while the losers' best hopes of a place in the top flight will depend on how many teams end up being promoted.
Holt are not out of the race, but they know they cannot afford to lose too many more points otherwise their dreams of success will be all but over. Holt face Chippenham Police who are desperate for points to keep them in the division so a shock could be on the cards.
North Bradley and Chippenham Sports and Social Club should be safe from the drop, but of the two sides the Chippenham side would be grateful for the points to make sure of safety.
DIVISION TWO
Division Two leaders Kings Arms should beat Biddestone Arms to maintain their lead at the summit.
Second placed Kingfisher visit Southwick Sports who, to their credit, played the whole of their last game with just seven players and took a 10-2 pounding. Southwick will hope that they have a full strength side to choose from otherwise another heavy defeat could be coming their way.
Pig and Whistle United tackle Virgin Mobile, who are on a roll of four successive wins. United will be wary of becoming victims number five, but on current form Virgin should win.
Sutton Benger are red-hot at the moment and especially striker James Pope, who has hit six goals in two games. Pope has a good chance of adding to his tally when Benger host FC Bradford, who are in the drop zone.
White Horse are unlikely to get anything from Parsons Nose, who are unbeaten in five games.
Steeple Ashton do battle with The Crown Devizes, who have not played for a month and who go into the game on the back of three defeats. Ashton have just one win in four and that came against lowly FC Bradford. Both teams will be happy to settle for a point, but Ashton's home advantage may see them go one better.
DIVISION THREE
It's first verses second in Division Three as leaders Fascia Graphics travel to Bar OC knowing that a defeat could scupper their chances of taking the title. A win for Fascia would leave them as firm favourites to the title which wouldn't be bad for a team who finished fourth in Division Four last season, 12 points behind the winners Bar OC.
Rowde Dynamos will know by Sunday if they are still in the hunt for promotion and if they are they should collect another two points from what should be an easy win at home to Blue Circle. However, the cement boys have picked up a knack of surprising the tops teams of late so Rowde will be on guard to avoid an upset.
Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club need to beat Sir Audley's Arms if they are to move out of the bottom two. They will take heart from their 1-1 draw with their opponents two weeks ago, but, with striker Steve Munday still missing, goals are hard to find at the moment. With the Arms going into the game on the back of an 8-2 victory, Trowbridge had better hope for a solid display from their defence otherwise they are odds-on to suffer their 13th defeat of the season.
Pack Horse Rangers entertain Corsham Park Rangers and it is the visitors who should return home with the points in the bag.
DIVISION FOUR
With only two games in Division Four, leaders Plough should open up a nine point advantage over The Southgate Inn who are inactive for a third consecutive week. Plough should have few problems in disposing of KSM and will want to add to their 107 goals to date.
The other game sees AFC Springfield host Wanderers. When the sides met earlier in the season Springfield won 5-2 and only a much-improved performance for the Wanderers will stop the youngsters repeating the scoreline.
