HAVING just received my 2006 pension increase, also my council tax bill, I find that deducting one from the other I will have the princely' sum of £1 per week extra (not enough for two loaves of bread).
Considering previous years' figures it would appear that year by year OAPs get poorer owing to the constant increase in the cost of living.
Many of the personnel who survived the First World War are still living (including myself) but they are treated with indifference by governments when receiving a living wage'.
Of course a war with Iraq could be afforded but a living' increase for OAPs is out of the question.
