THE death of Freda Scott has brought a chapter in the archive of the local entertainment scene to a close.
Mrs Scott was a well-known singer, appearing with her late husband Frankie Scott and his band to entertain thousands of ballroom and sequence dance fans between 1936-1985.
Initially working in concert parties as a double act, Sweet and Swing, they moved on to become one of the busiest bands in the area during the 1940s and '50s, with many top London musicians working with them during the war years entertaining British and American troops as well as locals.
During the mid-1960s, now joined by their son Julian, they helped to introduce modern sequence dancing to the area, with the help of professional dance teachers Bill and Kitty Croft, providing regular dances and balls at the Paragon Hall, Westbury, until 1985.
Her family said: "Frankie and Freda brought excitement and fun into a world that was very different from the one we know today." Mrs Scott leaves her son Julian, daughter-in-law Diane and granddaughters Victoria and Francesca.
They hope people who remember the happy times and music will come to her Funeral Mass, to be held at St Bernadette's Catholic Church, Westbury, on Tuesday at 12.30pm.
