YOUNG artists have been hard at work this week creating a permanent visual monument to their school's fifth birthday.
Children at The Mead Primary School in Trowbridge have created a mosaic representing the five branches of the arts: visual, poetry, drama, music and dance.
Melanie Jacobs from The Mead said: "Rather than just have a party we wanted to create something permanent that will remain in the school for years to come.
"The children have got really involved and really enjoyed it. They had great fun breaking up and cutting the tiles." There are nearly 400 pupils at the school so it was decided one child from each of the 12 classes would take part in the mosaic-making workshop, run by artist Anita Andrews.
The workshop is being funded by West Wiltshire District Council's PAWS arts project.
To celebrate the school's fifth birthday the children are taking part in a range of activities to do with the arts throughout the spring and summer.
