MY 10-year-old daughter came home from school yesterday, wearing the biggest smile.
She had returned from a school trip that had caused much jest amongst family members. I am afraid to say that all us adults are now embarrassed by our behaviour.
After weeks of arduous homework designing recycling leaflets, the children from Year 6 Minster School, Warminster, visited Compton Bassett landfill site.
Hills Recycling have obviously done their homework as well. They are aware that there are teething problems within the community during this changeover to the new system and have a scheme of thoroughly informing children of all aspects of recycling. I would like to congratulate them for making this scheme so informative and fun for the children.
My daughter enthused over the emptying of the red recycling lorry and was amazed at the contents and the noise made during emptying. She was gobsmacked at the size of the site and found the smell of the rotting compost disgusting.
Hills Recycling presented each child with a fluorescent sports bag complete with glow-in-the-dark strip, a ruler, badge, MP3 player holder and a plastic Viking helmet. I understand every child on the coach trip home wore their helmets. What a fantastic school trip.
