A WEST Wiltshire district councillor is to face a tribunal that could bar him from holding office for up to five years.
Independent group leader Christopher Newbury, of Leighton Green, Westbury, will go before the Adjudication Panel for England at the end of June. The allegations before the panel are that he "brought his office into disrepute, improperly secured an advantage for himself or others, failed to disclose personal interests, failed to withdraw from meetings when matters in which he had prejudicial interests were discussed, improperly sought to influence decisions on the matters and failed to register a non-financial interest."
The allegations relate to a complaint made to the district council in April last year, the details of which have yet to be confirmed. Mr Newbury has been the district council member for the Mid Wylye valley for the past 11 years and is also chairman of the planning committee. He has been a county councillor since 1997.
The tribunal is due to be held on June 27, at a venue yet to be confirmed. Mr Newbury was unavailable for comment yesterday.
