AFTER trekking through the Tanzanian rainforest for six days Dave Hyde was delighted but exhausted when he finally reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Along the way he raised £1,000 for Dorothy House Hospice, Winsley.
Mr Hyde, 62, of Tyning Road, Winsley, completed the climb with his daughter Juliette, who was raising money for a hospice in Winchester.
He said the trip was fantastic but probably the most tiring few days he had ever experienced.
"At 16,000ft, the summit looked just above us. After an evening meal and a very shallow sleep, we started the final ascent at midnight, with head torches lighting the way," he said.
"The pace was very slow, as it has to be because of the altitude your heart is asking your lungs for more oxygen, but your lungs are already taking as much as they can. We reached the summit just before daybreak, which was a fantastic sight, with incredible glaciers sprawling down the mountainside."
