THE headteacher of one of west Wiltshire's largest secondary schools has resigned. Dr Pam Stoate, 54, has announced she is stepping down as principal of The George Ward School, Melksham.
Dr Stoate joined the school in September 2000 and has overseen a number of changes during her years in charge.
"I have loved my time at The George Ward School and am proud of what I, the governors, staff and students have achieved," she said.
"I am delighted the school has been recommended for a new build and I wish the next headteacher every success. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support."
In September Dr Stoate took a break from her position due to ill health, but was absent for longer than intended, to undergo radiotherapy treatment for cancer.
She is now fully recovered and looking forward to some rest before making decisions about future plans.
Much of the work Dr Stoate pioneered at the school was with the whole community in mind.
The Melksham Saturday Academy, which enables local people to join together in an environment of lifelong learning, was one of her passions and she attended every session to ensure they ran smoothly.
