HAYLEY MURDER TRIAL: ACCUSED murderer Hugo Quintas appeared charming and friendly in public but behind closed doors a different side could emerge, according to his victim.
Hayley Richards reported an assault to police six days before her death. In her statement she said: "He is always very friendly in front of everyone else but with me he is different. He goes mad if I talk to other men."
She said he could appear pleasant and charming with other people but turned violent and abusive when they were alone. She listed several occasions where he had become angry with her but then acted as if nothing had happened the following day.
Miss Richards said she had become particularly afraid after an argument on New Year's Eve. "I was very frightened he might assault me but he didn't. The next day he acted like nothing had happened. This is why I put up with him for so long."
In another incident, which she did not report to police at the time, she said he had grabbed her wrists, leaving bruising and a graze. "I didn't report it, I just kept quiet and covered up the marks. I didn't want to admit what was happening and Hugo was nice to me again the next day," her statement said.
