THERE were some excellent letters in last week's edition, and I have great sympathy with the young couples and single parents, but this is how it effects my age group:
- State Pension increase 2.85 per cent
- Precept increase 48 per cent
- Council Tax increase 5 per cent
- Recent petrol increase 7 per cent
- Last bank rate increase 0.25 per cent (and therefore mortgage rise)
- Gas price rise 22 per cent
- Electricity price rise 16 per cent Result: Penury.
Interesting that the highest rise by far has been imposed by councillors supposedly representing their electorate, Mr Whiffens' point about councillors resigning gets my vote.
This ridiculous situation has its humour; wedding parties parking in the multi-storey car park and arriving at the Town Hall via Wilkinsons should be worth seeing.
